Workers of the World Relax!

my response to an ecological skeptic

Comment on a Climate Change Article:

While I believe that cleaner energy makes sense, I also believe that the “science” behind global warming is flawed to the point that some people should be brought up on fraud charges (It wouldn’t surprise me if this starts to happen in the next year). While we may be experiencing the worst fraud committed in the history of man, that fraud may well help push us to creating better and cleaner energy. That shouldn’t happen in the face of an imagined “impending global disaster”.

My Response:

I would suggest some additional academic level research before calling the science fraudulent and the “impending global disaster” imagined. Sure there are quacks on both sides but the broad opinion and real evidence are quite clear. Even outside of the carbon/warming debate, I feel it’s clear that we’re existing and growing in an unsustainable fashion on this planet of fixed resources. Trees are disappearing, fish are disappearing, more and more land is becoming un-fertile. Lack of drinkable water will be a major crisis in the next 50 years. There is more than one ecological issue pointing to a potential “impending global disaster”. We need to find a new relationship between human society and planet earth, and we need to figure out what values we need to keep, and which ones we need to do away with.

cross of iron

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.”

-Eisenhower

in essence, what really went down that day…

Paulson Called Bush, “Yo, my banker buddies need about a $trillion cause they got a little too greedy and failed”.

Bush - “Sure man, just need a few weeks to scare the shit out of the public so they go for it”

Paulson - “Great, I knew you’d come through for us.”

.. their political playbook.

Revealing Truths, with John Lennon

what are we doing?

look at the technical achievements our government has facilitated in the military industry. why couldn’t it do the same for the health industry. It’s the 21st century, is human health really an unsolvable problem?

we need to separate health from economic prosperity. if not, we are a society committed to economically selected survival of the fittest. If this is true, we really are as Nietzsche said, the most decadent of human cultures.

A People’s History of American Empire by Howard Zinn

New Video by the author of “A People’s History of the United States”.

Learning real history is sometimes very difficult. It’s nice to have someone who puts up very clear sign posts.

abortion? our democracy? oh my?

i think, at some time, you have to ask yourself… is this really the height of political debate that is needed in our country right now?

glumbert - What should the punishment for illegal abortions be?

Politics, Media, and Mr. Stewart

Jon Stewart once again shows us what journalism is and isn’t. The comments here on Karl Rove should be in all of our minds. The man at the center of one of the most serious crimes against America (the Valerie Plame outing), is now employed by Fox News.

America needs integrity. America needs justice. If the highest members of our society can get away with so much, how can we hope to ever maintain a peaceful and just environment for the society they represent.

stephen has “the word” for our generation

stephen on not just the student tasering, but a wonderful commentary on our “internet generation”. The apathy, and mental/physicial laziness of our generation is astounding. It’s thickness is suffocating.

Message from Iraqi Soldiers

“President Eisenhower warned of the growing military industrial complex in his farewell address. Since Dick Cheney can now afford solid gold oil derricks, it’s safe to say we failed Ike miserably. After losing two friends and over a dozen comrades, I have this to say: Do not wage war unless it is absolutely, positively the last ditch effort for survival” … “In the future, I want my children to grow up with the belief that what I did here was wrong, in a society that doesn’t deem that idea unpatriotic”
